Many people seek after things instead of seeking after the THING – the kingdom of God. Many lives are out of order because of a neglect of this divine order. They have found some of the ‘other things’ but without satisfaction, the pursuit becomes endless. Life becomes meaningless. If you find the kingdom of God, you have found every other thing. The desire of God is that we get answers to our prayers. Let’s face it, prayer is not easy - without the involvement of the Holy Spirit. Talking to someone you see is much easier than speaking to the someone you cannot see. A one-ended discussion is exhausting and when we speak to one who is not seen, we easily fall prey to distractions. No wonder some people pay prayer contractors to pray for them and guess what? Ever thought that God has not really blessed you? Ever concluded that others are so lucky in life but definitely not you? Well, I hear this over and over again. Generally such conclusions come from those that do not count their blessings. Our blessings don’t mean so much to us until we count them! If you remember the last time you really appreciated God on something, you would remember that it was because you recounted all that you have passed through and how His faithfulness was with you. We are many times in a fix as to what to focus on whenever there is a storm of life around us. The storms of life are all around us and we have to go through some thick cloud sometimes in our bid to fly higher than our present level. Do we give our attention to the storm or simply focus on God? The secret of going through all of these without allowing them going through usis the word FOCUS. Beloved, the problem always looks big whenever God is not the focus. If you focus on God, you will lose sight of the bigness of the problem. Can you remember Peter? The earthquake in Haiti is beyond our imagination. Many lives have been lost and in some cases, a whole generation has been simply wiped off. With the number still rolling in, thousands have been reported dead in the wake of the cataclysmic occurrence in Haiti, according to Adventures in Mission, and the figures are still rolling in. Don’t be bothered about the accuracy of the figure but about the lives that have been lost. This is not mere statistics, it involves men. Our heart goes to them at this time and we have started praying for them. But they need much more than our prayers. They need our support. They need shelter. They need food. Many people are still waiting for the year to start before they kick off. They had planned and prepared and it is now time to implement their plans. The only problem is that they feel that the year is just starting. Has anyone said in your ears lately, ‘the year is still young’? Well,that is what I am talking about. There is no magic in January 1! Every day can be the beginning of a new year. I know that many people don’t believe this or probably have never thought about it but it is true. What really makes a new year are the changes you make in your life and the new things that God does in your life. Generally in life, people tend to forget the basics. But the basics are the strength on which anything is built. Whatever we learnt later in Calculus and algebra could only be understood because we did some simple arithmetic in primary school. A skyscraper is built on a foundation laid. There is a simplified structure that gives colour to the whole. So it is in the spiritual life. As we go on in our Christian journey, we tend to make everything look so complex. Jesus Christ is many things to us. He is our Saviour and Lord, but He is also our Friend. Sometimes in life, friends are very valuable to us. We discuss with them without being afraid and they are there for us even when no one else is. We do not need to be who we are not in their presence because they already know us anyway.   Generally, friends are mates (age mates, school mates etc) but what a privilege when we have a senior friend. People that have some senior friends learn things that are beyond their age and experience. This makes them wiser that their contemporaries. Jesus is a senior friend. He knows us in and out. So many times, I read about people with humble beginnings. By the time these people are relating their stories, they are at a wonderful height in their journey to greatness. This has made me conclude that our humble beginnings are not meant to humble us. They are only there so that the success story can be sweeter later on. The difference between the top of the ladder and the bottom of it is the height to be climbed. Never move the mountain you should climb, it was positioned for your rising. Everything that has a top also has a bottom. The fact that you feel that you are at the bottom means that there is a top you are going to.
